Habitat for Humanity Northwest New Jersey’s (Habitat NWNJ) annual Tricky Tray, ReStore Sale and Golf Tournament spanned both Warren and Sussex counties following their official merger in January of this year. Responding to the need for support and affordable homeownership in New Jersey, the affiliate successfully hosted three back-to-back events over the course of five days to bring the community together in the spirit of giving back.
On May 29th, the events kicked off with Habitat NWNJ’s “Hope for the Future” Tricky Tray, an evening of chance, hope and excitement at the rustic Camp Sacajawea in Sparta, NJ. The energy in the room rose as each ticket was dropped into the baskets, the chances of winning anything from self-care baskets to a Coach or Kate Spade bag increasing. By the end of the evening, over 200 baskets were given to their respective winners, every dollar going towards new home builds in Sussex and Warren Counties.
Just two days later, on May 31st, the ReStore on Route 57 held its 13th Annual Anniversary Sale. The ReStore, known for its already highly discounted prices on furniture, home décor, hardware, lighting and more, offered shoppers 50% off the entire store for the day. Customers also enjoyed snacks, door prizes and mystery bags that were available to purchase for just $10. The ReStore, or the “store that helps build homes”, plays an essential role in funding Habitat NWNJ’s mission of building homes and hope. This annual event results in an extreme increase in both funds raised and foot traffic, serving both the community as well as the organization.
Monday, June 2nd saw the marathon of events wrap up with the “Tee Up for a Cause” Golf Tournament, a day of camaraderie, sunshine, and shared purpose. The event supported both Habitat NWNJ and Community Blend, another local nonprofit committed to improving and enriching peoples’ lives. Volunteers and golfers from far and wide came together to enjoy a day of friendly competition and fundraising, complete with breakfast, lunch, and raffle-style prizes where the more one donated, the bigger their chance of winning became. Every swing and every cent helped to fuel the construction of homes and the creation of opportunities across Northwest New Jersey.
The success of these events was due in large part to the supporters, attendees, sponsors and donors, for which the organization is incredibly grateful. Each of these events reflected the heart of Habitat’s mission — the joyful, generous belief that everyone should have a safe and affordable place to call home.
